How to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered using Sn0wbreeze

Followed by Absinthe, another popular jailbreak utility named ‘Sn0wbreeze‘ has been updated to support iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak. Unlike Absinthe, Sn0wbreeze doesn’t support all the iDevices which are compatible with iOS 5.1.1.

The supported devices includes,

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPad 1
  • iPod Touch 3G
  • iPod Touch 4G

All the new devices with either A5 or A5X based chips are not supported and they are,

  • iPhone 4S
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 2
  • Apple TV 3

If you the owner of one of the above device, I’ll recommend you to stick to Absinthe tool to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered.

Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered using Sn0wbreeze

Step One: Download Sn0wbreeze v2.9.6

Step Two: Download the iOS 5.1.1 IPSW for your device.

Step Three: Run Sn0wbreeze and make sure it is 2.9.6 and iOS 5.1.1 is listed, click next arrow.

Step Four: Click Browse for an IPSW, locate the downloaded IPSW and select it.

Step Five: Sn0wbreeze will verify the IPSW, click next arrow.

Step Six: Select a mode by which you want to jailbreak your device,

  • Simple Mode: For iPod Touch and Factory unlocked iPhone only.
  • Expert Mode: For SIM Unlock iPhone

Step Seven: Choose the appropriate mode and customize according to your need.

Step Eight: Select Build IPSW and click next.

This will build a custom IPSW for your device, it will be located next to your original IPSW.

Step Nine: Once the firmware is built, click ok and then place your device back into DFU mode and click start.

This will place your device into PwnedDFU mode.

Step Ten: Close Sn0wbreeze and open iTunes

Step Eleven: iTunes will identify your device into recovery mode, hold Shift and click on Restore.

Step Twelve: Select the CUSTOM IPSW which is created by Sn0wbreeze.

Step Thirteen: iTunes will start device restore. Wait for it to complete.

Step Fourteen: That’s it. Once it is completed your iPhone is successfully jailbroken.
