Well, the “most retweeted tweet” title became a thing when a group selfie by American television host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres from the Oscars 2014 went viral.

The selfie featured favourite Hollywood stars like Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey and so on.

This famous tweet garnered over 3.2 million retweets from 151 different countries.

2] Carter Wilkerson’s chicken nugget tweet

Well, 17-year old Carter Wilkerson broke Ellen’s record in 2014.

Carter, who goes by the Twitter handle @carterjwm, tweeted to popular fast-food chain Wendy’s. He asked how many retweets will get him a year of free nuggets from the brand.

To the tweet, the official Twitter account of Wendy’s replied by saying “18 million”. Carter put out another tweet asking people to retweet so that he can get those free nuggets; The tweet gained 3.5 million retweets so far.

However, both of the above tweets aren’t the most retweeted one on Twitter currently.

3] Yusaku Maezawa’s 100 million Yen tweet

That title goes to a tweet by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, founder of Japan’s largest online fashion website Zozotown.

To celebrate Zozotown reaching 10 billion Japanese Yen in sales, Maezawa put out a tweet featuring a competition. It was about 100 million Japanese Yen (around $900,000) would be distributed among 100 lucky winners.

To win the competition, people just had to follow Maezawa’s Twitter handle @yousuck2020. They also had to retweet the tweet that announced the contest.

The tweet appeared on Jan 5, 2019. Since then it has been retweeted over 4.7 million times till date making it the most retweeted tweet on Twitter till now.
