Watch Live TV on your PC with RtmpGUI and VLC

Internet TV  is something that is desired intensely today. With people getting access to high speed broadband and 3G, Internet TV has become a possibility.

Right, so we have Internet TV but what about the drawbacks? Suppose you’re watching a match on ESPN online, and suddenly you feel that you should check out the new ‘Dexter’ episode and then you feel like watching ‘Supernatural’.

What do you do then? I am sure you won’t search Google wildly for live streams of these shows with billions of popup ads in the way! We need to find a good solution, and rtmpGUI does look like one.

rtmpGUI is a GUI version of rtmpdump, a toolkit for RTMP streams. All forms of RTMP are supported, including rtmp://, rtmpt://, rtmpe://, rtmpte://, and rtmps://.

rtmpGUI has an extensive list of thousands of channels from almost all countries in hundreds of languages! Everything from HBO to Discovery to Fox Sports is covered. And all these can be streamed free from your system.

To configure rtmpGUI, follow these instructions.

  1. Download rtmpGUI and run it. It’ll show a error message saying config file is not valid. Ignore it
  2. Options menu will open up. These is a path box for location of media player. Locate VLC.exe using it. (If you don’t have VLC, download it from here)
  3. Now it will update its channel list. It’ll take some time, leave it as it is for few minutes. When done, click on any channel you would like to watch. VLC will launch and play it live!
  4. You can also record channels. Right click and click record. A command line window will open up. The recorded file will be in the app folder itself. Rename the recorded file to file.flv to play it.
  5. You can also add channels if you know their rtmp links

All in one, rtmpGUI is a solid package for any TV and Internet junkie. Currently, it is exclusive for Windows.

Download it! (It’s free and ad-free)
